Functions of CDPO
The Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) is responsible for implementing and overseeing child welfare programmes under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS). The CDPO coordinates with departments like Health and Education to ensure a holistic approach to child development and effectively implements ICDS components in the assigned area.

 

Ongoing Schemes and Projects under CDPO
1. Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS)
  • Supplementary Nutrition: Improves nutrition for children (0–6 years), pregnant and lactating mothers.
  • Non-formal Pre-school Education: For 3–6 year olds in Anganwadi centres to prepare them for formal schooling.
  • Immunisation: Sessions for children and pregnant women to reduce mortality/morbidity.
  • Referral Services: Directs beneficiaries to appropriate healthcare/support services.
  • Health Check-up: Includes weight monitoring, deworming, and management of malnutrition.
  • Health and Nutritional Education: Enhances parents’ awareness on nutrition and health practices.
2. SAG - Scheme for Adolescent Girls Empowers out-of-school adolescent girls, promotes health, hygiene, nutrition, and encourages re-enrolment in formal education or bridge learning programmes.
3. PMMVY - Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana Conditional cash transfer scheme to support pregnant and lactating mothers for their first child and second child (if a girl). Promotes positive behavioural change toward girl children.
4. Poshan Abhiyaan Launched on 8 March 2018, it addresses stunting, anaemia, undernutrition, and low birth weight using mobile apps, community engagement, and convergence of schemes.
5. Creche Centres Provide safe care and supervision for children (6 months–6 years) of working parents. Mon ICDS Project currently has 4 functional Creche Centres:

  • Sakhi Niwas: Working Women Hostels in Mon; inclusive of all women, chaired by DPO
  • Palna (National Creche Scheme): Daycare for children with health checks, nutrition, pre-school education
  • 181 Women Helpline: 24x7 emergency and non-emergency support for distressed women across Nagaland
