Function of the Department | Created in 1993 (formerly Wasteland Development), the Department of Land Resources was set up to address land degradation and to ensure optimum utilization of natural resources. In Mon District (since 2000), the department aims to increase land productivity, employment, rural income, ecological balance, and sustainable jhumland use. Key Activities: 1. Coffee Plantation: Promoted in collaboration with the Coffee Board of India. Free planting material distribution, trainings, and marketing support through MOU with Noble Cause Company (South Africa). - Potential Area: 72,099 ha (Arabica), 63,938 ha (Robusta) - Covered Area: 720.67 ha (Arabica), 17 villages, 300+ families 2. Rubber Plantation: Under RIDF scheme. - Potential Area: 89,698.03 ha - Covered Area: 258.5 ha in 12 villages (Tizit, Naganimora, Aboi blocks) - 116,325 trees standing, 83,700 trees tapped 3. Arecanut Plantation: Under state plan. - Potential Area: 79,017 ha - Covered Area: 200 ha in 21 villages (Tizit block) - 82,000 standing trees 4. Springshed Programme: Inventory of 743 springs across 145 villages (recognized and unrecognized). 5. RKVY: Engineering interventions like SCTs, check dams, brushwood barriers in recharge zones. |
